Italy

It’s hard for me to go through these images and not want to drop everything and go back to Tuscany! I had the amazing opportunity to spend over a week in Italy with my family a couple weeks ago. We haven’t been able to vacation together in a couple years. Lots of things have happened in those couple years, including the addition of my adorable neice, Sloane, to the family – AND, the upcoming addition of neice #2! Needless to say we were all super psyched to be together in such an amazing location. We had a blast taking day trips across Tuscany to some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. We also took full advantage of afternoons at the pool, drinking lots of wine and eating lots of pasta. We stayed at a villa just outside of Cortona, which turned out to be one of our favorite cities in the area. The last two nights, we headed to Florence and took advantage of all the toursity things to do in the big city – sites, museums…you name it, we did it. Basically, it was the perfect vacation, and I was so sad when it ended. I had planned to photograph our entire trip in film, but unfortunately I left a HUGE bag of film in Paris the week before (more to come on that trip). I was able to find a few rolls of film here and there in some of the larger towns we visited, but this post is a mix of film and digital. The film shot was Ilford 3200, Portra 400 and Fuji Pro 400H.

The view from the top of Cortona, the city we spent the most time in during our trip.

Cortona had so much to offer in the way of piazzas, shopping, food and drink. I would send anyone here heading to Italy. Such a beautiful old city.

There was an amazing public art show in Cortona while we were there – beautiful portraits!
Our villa had stunning views and was a picture perfect place to land for the week.

We loved hanging by the pool in the afternoons, enjoying some locals eats and drinks, watching our neighbor farm and having dinner under the 100 year old walnut tree in the evenings! The fresh ingredients we had available within a stone’s throw of the property was really amazing.

Amir ate the best 36 oz. (!!) steak of his life in Montepulciano, butchered in the restaurant by the owner. So cool.

Siena was another favorite with one of the most fantastic piazzas I’ve seen. We also did a walking food tour where we sampled espresso, gelato, Pecorino, wine, truffles and more! It was delightful.

Before we left Tuscany we got real touristy and stopped in one of those beautiful sunflower fields to grab some photos. It really is such a sight to see these 6 ft. tall blooms in row after row after row.

I also wanted to be sure to grab some quick portraits of my sister and her family. They’re expecting their second child in October and what better place to grab some maternity/family portraits than Tuscany?
