360 West Magazine is a beautiful lifestyle publication in Fort Worth. I love flipping through the lovely pages of fashion, food, real estate, etc. 360 so kindly featured me, along with three other great local photographers, in the November issue and asked us about our thoughts on family portraits, specifically regarding Christmas card photos. Laura Meyn did a great job putting this article together, and I’m honored to be included. Thanks guys!

Relaxed style
Photographer Anna Routh Barzin has never felt the need to have a studio as a portrait photographer. “There’s beautiful light in the morning and beautiful light in the evening,” she says. But she has more reasons for working outside. “You can get more candid stuff, see the families as they are,” she says. “Kids running around the park, laughing, smiling — those are the pictures I’d want of my family.” That’s why she met Charlie, Ashleigh and their son Harrison in Fort Worth’s Trinity Park, where plenty of open space and structures like benches and bridges make for an appealing location. (And an alternative to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, a favorite spot for local photography, but one that charges professional photographers a fee.) “These two were new parents who hadn’t sat down for a real photo session since their little guy was born,” says Barzin. “They wanted something with a natural, organic feel that allowed them to really just be who they are and have fun.” Relaxing seems to be the key to avoiding awkward family photos. “Don’t be afraid to be laughing on your Christmas card,” she says. In this shoot with Charlie, Ashleigh and Harrison, it all clicked. “The warmth of their family combined with the warm evening glow really made for some lovely images.”
